Inspired by the pay-as-you-throw schemes that will likely be implemented in many communities in the not too distant future, I'm setting myself a challenge. I'm going to see how much I can reduce the amount of rubbish I bin. I'll let you know how I get on. Maybe I'll come up with some tips...

Are you being a bit sarcastic??? I've got the garbage sitch under control here for the moment. I might sell stuff on ebay rather than hang around brick lane tho...

Hello! It been a while since your last entry so I'm glad that you're still here.
I'll be interested to see how you get on with your admirable aim, which is one that I'm also attempting, albeit rather half heartedly I'm sorry to say. -

Hi! Thanks for reading my blog!
So far so good with operation rubbish reduction. This is what I've learned so far:
-Recycle everything you can, don't be lazy!
-Don't buy things with a lot of packaging: When I'm at the shop I go for items with minimal packaging. I don't put veg in separate little plastic bags when possible. Obviously you don't want to heap a bunch of green beans in your shopping trolley.
-Compost

Go for it girl. try produce bags for your veggies - they really do cut down on those flimsy little produce bags which are an environmental nightmare. How are the worms - I tried a worm bin from the internet. It was rubbish - all my worms escaped. They are now locked in the compost bin. I am waiting for them to start eating.

Hi Pam,
i will try the produce bags. what kind do you use?
The worms are doing pretty well. They are still on the front step next to my sapling bay tree.
All best,
Rachel
I've come up with a couple of ideas to help you with your reduction in throwing out rubbish:
1) You could try and sell all your useless broken crap to tourists on brick lane on the weekend - which is what most people do in tower hamlets.
2) You could throw out your good, useful stuff which is not rubbish - this would give you more space in your flat to store more wormeries and maybe a small incinerator for non-biodegradable rubbish.
3) Post all your rubbish to somewhere in the saharan desert with no return address.
Hope that helps - good luck!
